Talk on Dahlias

Talk on Dahlias by Val Bourne

19 Mar 2026 7 p.m.

  • Memorial Hall
  • Brown's Lane
  • Charlbury

To encourage our members to enter our September Annual Show with their favourite dahlias, Val Bourne is going to give us a Dahlia Talk.

Val has been a member of RHS judging panels and committees and is an active member of several plant societies. Val judged the Dahlias Trial for over ten years and has a hundred or so on her allotment. She is proud to be the President of the Hardy Plant Society.

Following a lowly career in vegetable research in the 1970s, at the National Vegetable Research Station, Val began to write in the early 1990s. She has been a regular contributor to The Daily Telegraph and many magazines and journals, winning Garden Media Guild’s Journalist of the Year twice. Val has written ten books, most notable The Living Jigsaw published by Kew in 2017. Her latest book is Tough Plants, published in January 2025.

Val gardens organically in the high Cotswolds and her plant passions include snowdrops, ferns, dahlias, trilliums and roses.

This event will also be an opportunity for members who haven't done so already to renew their subscription for 2026, and for new members to join us!

You can also do this online in advance of the talk, all the details can be found on our Membership page here: http://www.charlburygardensociety.org.uk/membership/
