The herbaceous border at Waterperry through the year

Just a stone’s throw from Oxford and within easy reach of London nestles Waterperry Gardens.

Made famous by Beatrix Havergal who established her School of Horticulture for Ladies here from 1932 to 1971, it’s now home to 8 acres of beautifully landscaped ornamental gardens, a quality plant centre and garden shop, gallery and gift shop, museum and tea shop.

Rob first started working at Waterperry as an apprentice in 1979 at the age of 17. After a couple of years he specialised in hardy nursery stock, and worked on Waterperry’s shrub nursery. Two years later he joined the Herbaceous nursery and started to run it a year later. Around this time he was also asked to take on the Alpine nursery. This has given him a broad knowledge in ornamental plants that can be grown in the Oxford area.

In 1990 he moved to London and worked in gardens around the north and west of the city, for the rich and sometimes a little bit famous.

Rob was invited to take up the post of Horticultural Manager in 1993. It covers all horticulture on the estate: this includes ornamental gardens, fruit production, nursery production, customers advice.

This talk will be held in the Memorial Hall.

Free to all current (2022) members. Non-members welcome (£3 at the door).
